The South West Florida Coalition for Peace & Justice and the Coalition for Inclusion and Diversity are co-sponsoring the public forum on Sarasota Cares--Diversity and Positive Change on Thursday, June 25, 2009, at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 1565 First St, in downtown Sarasota. Mayor Dick Clapp will give the welcoming remarks. Cody Hart will be the moderator of the event. Speakers include: Lt. Tim Enos, Sarasota Sheriff's Office, Capt. Lucius Bonner, Sarasota Police Dept., Chris Cale, Vice-principal, Sarasota High School, Pam Donehew and Rachel Wasserman, instructors at Sarasota Military Academy, and April Barnwell, community member and member of CID. Adam Tebrugge with Peter Duisberg
The Duisberg Peace and Justice Award was presented to Adam Tebrugge for 23 years of outstanding service in the Public Defender office in Manatee, Sarasota, and DeSoto Counties on January 1. His accomplishments include handling the most serous and complex cases involving homicides facing the courts as the Public Defender's only fully certified Criminal Trial Attorney. A member of the Death Penalty Steering Committee, he helped to train other capital attorneys in trial techniques and alternative measures of dealing with offenders. He continues to lecture on "Making Justice Work".
