DESCRIPTION: Standing
Women Objectives -- We will be standing for the world's children
and grandchildren, and for the seven generations beyond them. We
dream of a world where all of our children have safe drinking water,
clean air to breathe, and enough food to eat. A world where they
have access to a basic education to develop their minds and healthcare
to nurture their growing bodies. A world where they have a warm,
safe and loving place to call home. A world where they don't live
in fear of violence--in their home, in their neighborhood, in their
school or in their world. This is the world of which we dream. This
is the cause for which we will stand.

SARASOTA/MANATEE PEACE PEOPLE YOU ARE NEEDED!
FEBRUARY 23RD
OVERVIEW:On
Friday, February 16th at 10:30 am a group of 12 women representing
Codepink and several other local peace groups met with Vern
Buchanan's Deputy Chief of Staff, Ron Turner. They spoke openly
and honestly with him about their opposition to the Iraq War. Mr.
Turner was fairly receptive to their opinions. The fact that these
women were allowed to speak their minds and open a dialog with this
office a major success! The meeting was scheduled to last only 15
minutes but Mr. Turner was willing to listen for a full half-hour.
In the spirit of the positive exchange that has taken place with
Mr. Buchanan's office Codepink
would like to suggest the following actions:
WHAT:
Occupation Project: A campaign of sustained non-violent
actions to inform our Representative, Vern Buchanan, of his constituents'
views on the Iraq war. We will occupy the sidewalk outside Mr. Buchanan's
office and hold signs to ask him to "Stop Funding the War"
and to "Vote for PEACE". We will also be inviting Mr.
Buchanan and/or Mr. Turner, in advance, to join us on the sidewalk
for a conversation! For more information please go towww.vcnv.orgor www.codepinkalert.organd click on the "Occupation Project"
section. There are other actions just like ours taking place all
across the country!
WHERE:
Vern Buchanan's Office!
235 North Orange Avenue
Sarasota, Fl 34236
(Downtown, at the corner of Orange and Fruitville)
***You may park in the Whole
Foods parking garage on the 2nd level. It is free and is only a
short 3 blocks to the office building.
(need direction gohere)
WHEN:
Friday, February 23rd,
at 12:00 noon until ???
There will be smaller actions taking place all week
long (i.e. sending flowers to the office with the message "Be
sweet, stop funding war!",etc.) but this is the "BIG ONE"!
We need your help! But in order to make a statement we would like
EVERYONE to come out and line the sidewalks around the office and
tell Vern Buchanan to 'STOP FUNDING THE WAR", "VOTE YES
on HR 508", and "Bring our troops home now!".
Again, please remember to keep it positive!!! Tell
Vern we want him to "BE OUR HERO, VOTE FOR PEACE". Be
sure to keep your signs LARGE and LEGIBLE!!! We want the folks in
the office overhead to be able to read them!
SOME IDEAS :
"DO THE RIGHT THING, VERN"
"TROOPS HOME FAST"
"VERN FOR PEACE"
"LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE"
"NO MORE WAR"
Please stay positive! Codepink
has had a positive experience and would like to keep it up!! Please
come out and show your support in the name of PEACE!

MoveOn is planning an event at Vern Buchanan's
office
Atnoon on Thursday,
February 22nd, MoveOn is planning an event at Vern
Buchanan's office to oppose escalation in Iraq and demand withdrawal
instead. It will also serve to register our disappointment with his
negative vote on the resolution opposing escalation. This will be
an orderly event as described in the MoveOn communication below, but
in light of the Administration's apparent intent to attack Iran, it
is crucial at this time to communicate the depth of feeling against
any continuation of this disastrous misadventure.
Please join us if you can.
We meet atnoon on
Thursday at Buchanan's office at 235
N. Orange Ave., Suite 201, in Sarasota, just south of Fruitville Rd.
Orange Ave. is about 5 blocks west of Washington Blvd (also known
as Route 301).

Message from MoveOn
(background)
This Thursday, Feb. 22, noon at Buchanan's office
will be a calling to the carpet for Vern Buchanan. It will be a media
event. It will be a most powerful one if every one of us can go or
send a representative and bring friends. The calling to the carpet
will be done in a kind way: at least half the constituents of this
district voted for Christine Jennings and we want Out Of Iraq, etc.
Buchanan's job is to represent us. That means represent the Out of
Iraq stand. We'll hold signs saying No Escalation (etc.) which will
be printed and handed out at the event. The meeting will also accomplish
delivery of 18 letters from MoveOn members written to Buchanan about
leaving Iraq, written at The Ground Truth movie showing Feb. 15.
